Spaghetti Family Dinner

Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 17th, at the William E. Norris School – this will be our annual Spaghetti family dinner night! Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner being served around 6 p.m. Awards and raffles will last until roughly 8:30. If you haven't been before -- you won't want to miss it! It's a fun night to get together, celebrate our year, and WIN SOME PRIZES! Tickets are $6 for HSPA dancers and non-students 12 years-old and under; $8 for adults (13+).

We'll be hosting our annual Chinese raffle and are currently seeking donations -- gift cards, jewelry, plants, summer fun items, themed baskets, dance accessories and/or gear, etc. THANK YOU in advance for your contributions! Our raffle wouldn't be as popular and fabulous as it is without the generous support from our amazing HSPA friends and families.

If you will be contributing a raffle item, please bring it to the HSPA office by Wednesday, May 16th. Please remember to include your name so we know who donated what items. We are requesting that if you do plan on donating a raffle item to please sign up on the bulletin board, so we can get an estimate of the number of prizes coming ahead of time.

We warmly welcome volunteer help with set-up (between 2:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.) and event break-down and clean-up (around 9 p.m.).

Tickets will go on sale soon - we'll keep you posted!

Picture Week

Picture week will be Tuesday, May 29th thru Monday, June 4th.  Recreational dancers are requested to bring their costumes during their regularly scheduled classes with the correct tights and shoes, as well as hair and make-up done. We will get them set up for a full class picture and then will invite parents in to also grab a quick class picture with your phones/cameras. Then they will get a little bit of time for some individual pictures for those parents who are interested.

Team dancers will have photos done for all dances on one day, Saturday, May 5th. This includes production numbers, tap numbers and their non-competitive ballet class pictures. This will help eliminate extra hair / make-up days for their multiple numbers. More details regarding an exact time schedule per number to follow soon! The only number that we may need to hold off from photographing that day is the opening number, as costuming may not be completed by that date.

Calling all dads

Our annual dad’s rehearsals will begin Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00-8:30pm, and every Wednesday after that! This will run through our last rehearsal on Wednesday, June 6th. That gives us a total of 7 rehearsals. The first four weeks of rehearsals are without the daughters please – just dads!

ALL DADS ARE WELCOME - no experience required. In fact, the less experience, the better! ;) As always, we promise you won't want to miss out. It's going to be as entertaining as always... a crowd favorite.

Summer Camp

Summer camp dates will be announced soon.

Jump convention/competition

What a weekend! Congratulations to all our dancers that attended Jump in NYC for an outstanding weekend. Not only did our dancers represent us with extraordinary pride on stage, but their off-stage manners, professionalism, maturity and sportsmanship was exemplary. We came away with many high score awards as well as over 20 of our dancers receiving scholarships.

DMA Competition

Best of luck to all our younger teams that are competing this weekend at DMA in Danbury, CT.  Please make sure to be dressed and ready approximately 90 minutes prior to your dancers scheduled performance time. Numbers will not be held for late arrivals. All dancers should have a checklist of costumes, tights, shoes, makeup, hair accessories and earrings. Parents please be sure to always leave additional time in case of traffic/construction delays.

Competition Etiquette

  • DANCERS - Some of you have participated in many competitions, but for some of you -- this is a first. It's an exciting and fun weekend of dancing, meeting new friends, and making memories. It's a lot of challenging work and can be exhausting, but well worth it as you present your best self on stage for the judges and work with your teams and perform your solos, duos, small groups, etc. As a reminder, we ask that all our dancers bring their best attitudes with them in representing HSPA not just on stage, but backstage, in the dressing rooms, in the halls, etc. Be polite to other dancers; be courteous; be kind. We take pride in our friendships with other studios and dancers from near and far and learning from others not within our own studio. Take the time to meet dancers from someplace else -- it's great to support each other and build camaraderie!

  • Remember to wear your team jackets, pants, shirts and/or any HSPA gear to represent the studio during awards.

  • DRESSING ROOMS will be posted when you arrive. Look for HSPA dressing room signs.

  • GET SOME SLEEP! It's important to get your rest before competition so you can be at your very best! Not just the night before... this week leading up is equally important. Rest & keep hydrated.

  • PARENTS -Competitions are FREE to watch and are open to all family and friends to come and support their dancer(s). As a reminder there is ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEO TAPING in the auditoriums of the performances. If you do, not only will your dancer be disqualified, the entire studio is disqualified from the competition. These are the competition rules, not ours, but we must make sure that everyone is aware. So please remind anyone who may be traveling with you -- well intended friends, aunties, uncles, grandma and grandpa's -- photos and videos of performances are strictly forbidden. Professional photographers and videographers are always present to view and purchase at each competition. And please remember to encourage your dancer to support those around her/him, whether from HSPA or elsewhere. Kids model good behavior. ENJOY getting to know other families and remember dressing room kindness can go a long way.
